Chalet detail Information for guests

This section contains background information about the chalet and how it operates. Reading it will help you make the most of your stay with us.

Please note that this is a strictly non-smoking chalet and you are not allowed to smoke in any area within the building.

On arrival

Having reached the chalet the first thing you need to do is get in through the door! It is locked by a PIN number. The member who makes the booking for you should tell you what this is. If you are going to arrive at an 'unsociable' time then please double check that you have this number with you before you leave.

To open the door just key in the PIN number. To leave the chalet press the unlock button inside the door.

Through the door you will find seating and lockers. You can store your boots under the benches and skis/snowboards in the lockers. Please do not wear your outdoor footwear in the chalet.

As you enter the main area of the chalet you will see a bar. To the left of this is a door to the bedrooms, next to which is a list of room allocations. All the bedrooms are on the first and second floors.

Bedrooms

You will be provided with towels in your bedroom.
The heating in the bedrooms is controlled by thermostatic timers. Please don't adjust the programming!
During the summer season laundry is provided but guests are expected to clean their rooms and the living spaces. Most importantly the rooms must be left presentable for the next guests.

Bar

The bar is an honesty bar: please make a note of any beers or soft drinks that you use against your name. Don't forget to settle up with the chalet staff before you leave.

Catering (winter season)

Breakfast is served from 8am onwards. Tea and coffee are provided, along with fresh bread, cereals and eggs to order.

Afternoon tea is provided.

Evening meals are served every day at 19:30, except on the chalet staff's day off which is normally a Wednesday. At busy times of the year children's meals (younger than 13) will be served at 18:00. Wine is served with your meal and coffee is served in the lounge area afterwards. Please check with the chalet staff for current arrangements as well as checking that they have details of any special dietary requirements that you might have. It is advisable to book a restaurant for the chalet staff's day off since they can get very busy at peak times of the season.

Note that for insurance reasons it is not possible for you to use the kitchen facilities during the winter period.

Catering (summer season)

The Chalet is self-catering in the summer. Basic breakfast/tea/coffee materials are provided.

Snooker/pool table

Please note that children under the age of 12 are not allowed to use this.

Local amenities

Ski Hire

Head up the valley and take the first turn to Les Houches. At the top of the climb turn left and follow the road to the first ski shop on the left-hand side: Cyprien Sports. This has a discount arranged with the ski chalet, so make sure you say you're staying in Chalet Hotel des Alpes!

Shop

There is a small supermarket, Supérette huit à 8, about half a mile away. Turn right out of the chalet and head up the main road, over a bridge, past the park on the left and turn right at the T junction you reach. The shop is then a short distance away on the righthand side.

Station

There is a regular train service to Chamonix running from the station (platform closest to the chalet). The trains don't run very late, so if you're going out for an evening you will probably need to book a taxi for the return trip. You get a great view from the train, so well worth the trip.

Taxi

Taxis are expensive and busy, so book in advance and ask for a rough price when doing so. Their telephone numbers are on the chalet notice board.

In the event of a fire

In the event of a fire follow the fire drill procedure indicated in the bedrooms and gather in the car park.
