Parc de Merlet is an animal park situated high up above Les Houches. It is open throughout the summer and has a café with what must be one of the best views of the alps (even if the food is awful). Best time to visit for the view is the afternoon.
This is no 'animals in cages' experience, the various high mountain animals, including chamois, marmottes, mouflon etc, are all to be found scattered around the beautiful high mountain meadows. It feels like a safari, and you'll soon be ticking off the various animals on the leaflet as you spot them.
Take plenty of film.
